The Healesville Sanctuary and the Dandenong Ranges are exceptional natural reserves on the edge of Melbourne. Students will get to visit rainforest and also see Australia's unique animals, including koalas, kangaroos, and platypuses.
HEALESVILLE & PUFFING BILLY
Healesville Sanctuary, located in the picturesque Yarra Valley, is a must-visit destination for visitors to Australia. This world-renowned wildlife conservation park offers visitors the unique opportunity to encounter Australia's iconic fauna in their natural habitat. From koalas to majestic kangaroos and colorful birds and reptiles, the sanctuary is home to a diverse range of native species. Visitors can explore the various exhibits, witness captivating animal demonstrations, and even have the chance to hand-feed some of the friendly creatures.
To complement the visit to Healesville Sanctuary, students will begin with a scenic journey aboard the Puffing Billy Railway. This historic steam train travels through the lush Yarra Valley, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The journey is a delightful and memorable experience, with the opportunity to enjoy the nostalgic charm of Australia's historical steam era.
After the adventure on Puffing Billy, the tour heads to the charming village of Sassafras for a leisurely brunch. Sassafras boasts a variety of cozy cafes and restaurants serving delicious local cuisine. Indulge in a hearty breakfast or a light lunch, and savor the relaxed atmosphere of this picturesque town.
To complete the morning, we take a refreshing walk in the nearby rainforest. The Yarra Valley is home to several stunning rainforests, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Explore the lush greenery, listen to the sounds of nature, and discover hidden waterfalls and creeks. A walk in the rainforest is the perfect way to unwind and connect with the natural world.

HEALESVILE SANCTUARY DAY ITINERARY
BREAKFAST
8am departure from hotel after breakfast by bus.
One hour bus ride to Puffing Billy scenic train.
MORNING
After Puffing Billy, a Dandenong ranges rainforest walk and morning tea in Sassafras, before transport to Healesville.
LUNCH
1pm Lunch at Healesville getting acquainted with the environment and a stroll around the Healesvlle Sanctuary.
AFTERNOON
3pm presentation of the animals at Healesville including a show of the birds of prey and walk through with the wallabies.
EVENING
6pm Return to hotel around 6pm for rest and relaxation and a dinner at the hotel and English language immersion games.
